4. Cold

I have a cold today so I'm not feeling like writing anything. I have of course convinced myself that it's coronavirus, and apparently some has been found in Scotland, so you never know. Tim cooked me dinner - salmon, vegetables, tomatoes and mashed potatoes - and him and Kit talked to me about whether I really want to go and live on my own 3 miles up the road in a one bedroom flat I have seemingly bought but am secretly hoping the owners will decide they want to keep as I'm not sure about living on my own. I can't think about it any more as my head hurts and I've lost track of how many paracetamol I've taken today so I'm going to go to sleep.

3. Pickles

It's February 3rd and we have the heating on in our house, but it's too hot so I have the window open in my room. I wake up early wriggling around as it's too hot when the heating comes on at 6.30am. I have conversations with people about flowers emerging too soon - lots of snowdrops are out, will they know to retreat back underground again if it goes back to the normal cold temperatures that it should be in February? Two swallows flew over us while we played tennis on Sunday, which also means it's Spring already doesn't it? I'm never totally sure when each flower is meant to emerge, so I say it kind of hazily and wait for someone else more knowledgeable to confirm it for me, and then they don't realise that I didn't really know in the first place because they're busy confirming it for me. I do this with a lot of things - mention them in passing with just enough vague detail to look like I know what I just said is true, but if I had to go to court...

2. Time

Day 2 of the challenge. The previous post was written on day 2 too, as I hadn't done the first day. I've found a spare keyboard which has a letter /a/ that works, so that's a relief. Today is the 2nd February 2020. That is a palindrome date, ie 02/02/2020. the last one was 31/11/1113.  I think the next one will be 31/12/2113. So we only get them once in a lifetime unless we are highly enlightened souls who have traversed various lifetimes and got to experience more than 1 of these. I have a five year diary so I can tell you what I was doing every year previously on this very day. On this day in 2016 I met a friend for lunch and went to salsa dancing in the evening with Kim (I'm not very good at it so that has fizzled out but Kim's a pro now). In 2017 I bought a penny whistle and made some goulash for dinner. In 2018 I watched Phantom Thread at the cinema in Brixton with my friend Laura (strange but good film, very interesting twist at the end). In 2019 I was in...

1. Challenge - the preamble

I created a blog challenge with my friend Juanita, you have to write a blog post each day in February. Mostly I say things like this and don't actually do them, but Juannie is obviously more a woman of her word than me and she's already done two posts, so I'm catching up. I had already created this blog and called it 'pickles pickles things' presumably to write some fascinating pickles related updates at some point in my life, but evidently none had appeared. The main issue I'm having is that I dropped some honey on my laptop a few weeks ago, specifically on the letter /a/. It went all sticky so I got a screwdriver and pulled the letter /a/ off the keyboard so I could blow it a bit. Obviously this is what a professional IT person would have recommended, and obviously it didn't actually help. It's now only sporadically working, so I've copied the letter /a/ and every time I have to write a word with an /a/ in it, I have to press CTRL+V instead of /...
